STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific Tigers finished the series how they started it with a late-inning comeback to defeat the Gaels on Sunday. Saint Mary's had leads of 3-0, 4-1, and 6-4 before the home team came back to win 7-6.
The Gaels got their first lead of the game on Chris Santiago's team-best 10th home run of the season driving in Nick Mistone and Gavin Napier, who hit back-to-back singles to start the inning for a 3-0 advantage.
After the Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Gaels answered immediately in the top of the fifth with a sac fly from Mistone to score Dalton Mashore, who went from second to third on the previous fly out from Seth Nager, and the Gaels had their three-run lead back at 4-1.
TYING TIGERS
Pacific got their own three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4, but Kyle Velazquez singled to left center in the seventh to give the Gaels the lead again at 6-4 when he drove in Blake McDonald and Santiago.
The Tigers would tie it again in the bottom of the 8th on a double and an error at 6-6 and win it in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth on a single to left with the bases loaded for the 7-6 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
It was another good outing for Ryan Wiltse, who went six innings allowing four runs with just one walk and a career-high nine strikeouts.
Velasquez finished 3 for 5 with the two RBI and Mashore also had a three-hit day going 3 for 4 with a run scored. Santiago went 2 for 4 with RBI and two runs scored.
