Moraga, Calif. – The winner of the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week Award for the week of August 21 is Tessa Salvestrin of Women's Soccer. The freshman from St. Helena, California opened her Gaels account in last week's opener against Cal Poly where she scored a goal and assisted another. 
 
Salvestrin was a force to be reckoned with all game, scoring her first career Gaels goal just 30 minutes into the first half. She received a pass from fellow freshman Savannah Schwarze, before wiggling her way into the box and nestling a shot off of the right post and in to make it 1-0 SMC.
 
Salvestrin's assist came in the second half, when she beautifully controlled the ball off her chest before spinning around and lasering a through ball right into the path of fellow freshman Priscilla Ward, who had made a fantastic run from midfield. One on one with the goalkeeper, Ward calmly fizzed the ball into the bottom left corner for a 3-0 lead.
 
The Gaels will take on the California Bears on Thursday, August 25 at 4 pm. The Bears lost their first game of the season last Thursday to UC Irvine 1-0.
