BERKELEY, Calif. – A goal in the 81st minute by the Cal Bears stopped SMC's unbeaten streak at five games in a 1-0 victory over the Gaels on Sunday afternoon.

In the 81st minute the Bears streaked downfield and got a pass over the Gaels defense to break the scoreless tie from just outside the six-yard box.

The Gaels had chances throughout the game to score, outshooting the Bears 15-14, though Cal had two more shots on goal than Saint Mary's. They had their best opportunities in the ninth minute and in the 41st, as the Gaels would have had a goal from a
Christian Engmann header late in the first half but a Cal defender kept it out of the net as he hugged the post.

SMC also threatened in 73rd when a shot from
Greg Brighton ricocheted off a Gael and a Bears defender before the keeper fell on it.

The Gaels kept the Bears from breaking out early when
Kash Oladapo made a big save by smothering a shot from close range in the at 19the minute.

Saint Mary's dodged a bullet in the 30th minute when a backfoot redirect by Cal went just wide right of the net, and in the 48' Engmann defensive play of the day with perfect tackle in the box before he cleared the ball to avoid a Cal corner kick.
