MORAGA, Calif. - Freshman
Sydney Middaugh has earned the Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athlete of the Week award with an outstanding performance against San Diego and Pacific this past week.
Wednesday evening when the Gaels were in San Diego, Middaugh had an assist to
Briana Salvetti in the 48th minute, where SMC tied the score 1-1. The Gaels continued to attack where eight minutes later
Emma Barthel passed the ball to Middaugh, where Middaugh shot with her right foot to bring the score 2-1 after the ball slipped through the keeper's arms.
This past Saturday SMC took on Pacific and defeated them with a 2-0 win. Middaugh scored both the goals for the Gaels. She scored the first goal after she received a long pass from Salvetti, where Middaugh raced up the right side, worked her way through the box, and fired the shot with her right foot into the short side of the net. Tigers goalkeeper Davy Libby put a finger on the ball, but Middaugh's shot was too powerful, allowing it to go into the upper right corner of the net for a 1-0 Gaels lead.
In the 76th minute, Middaugh put another one in the goal after a long feed from freshman
Emmie Ennis. Middaugh cut right, then back left, split two defenders, and shot with her left foot across to the lower right side of the net past the diving keeper.
SMC will remain at home to play Portland in their final home game and celebrate senior day on November 1st at 3:00 p.m.
