LAST TIME OUT
A penalty in the 79th minute sealed the win for No. 12 Portland in the Gaels 2023 home finale last weekend. Saint Mary's played a good 43 minutes of defense before one mishap led to a game-winning goal for Portland in the 44th minute. The Gaels didn't clear a cross from right of the goal, and it left the ball sitting directly in front keeper
Jack Landreth. Samory Powder put it in the back of the net from point-blank range to make it a 1-0 lead for Portland, even though Landreth got a piece of it.
Â
The Gaels deserved better as they were even in shots with the Pilots at five apiece, though Portland did have a 56% to 44% advantage in possession time. They got within two minutes of taking the No. 12 team in the country to the half with a scoreless tie, and came within inches of equalizing in the 48th minute.

ABOUT THE LIONS
It's been a season full of big wins for LMU, with victories over UCLA, Virginia, Portland, Cal State Fullerton, and Oregon State. They've also had a loss to San Francisco and a tie with Pacific, but that is more telling of the nature of the WCC and how any team can win at any given time.
Â
LMU does have the lowest-scoring offense in the conference and a defense that is fifth in goals allowed per game. They do not have a scorer in the top 10 of goals, assists, or points in WCC play. Keeper Massimo Pomponi does have three clean sheets in WCC play and six total, which has him tied for first in the conference, to go along with 21 saves which ranks him third among all WCC keepers.
Â
Ryan Kingsford and Tyger Smalls each have four goals on the season to lead the Lions, and Kingsford and Jovan Prado both have three assists to lead the team. Kingsford 11 points are tops on the side as well.
