

TRK | Gaels Continue to Improve at Portland Indoor Two

PORTLAND, Ore. – Saint Mary's Track and Field teams were back on the track Sunday afternoon as they competed in the Portland Indoor Two.
The Gaels raced well across the board, as multiple runners set personal bests.
IN A FLASH
The 200m got the day's racing underway, as Saint Mary's featured six women in the event. Maddie Fletcher was the quickest Gael, finishing 9th out of 29 runners in a time of 27.55. Next came Jaden DeSouza in 13th in a time of 27.79.
A trio of Gaels followed, as Klara Frih, finished 18th, Elizabeth Nip in 19th, and Lotte Van Schaik in 20th. Frih ran a 29.28, Nip a 29.53, and Van Schaik a 29.95. Piper Kunesh rounded out the field for the Gaels, claiming 29th in a time of 41.43.
The 400m was the next event up, as Kaitlin Laner was the lone Gael competing in the event. Out of 27 runners, Laner finished 14th in a time of 1:03.94.
A LITTLE BIT LONGER NOW
The 3000m was the most popular event of the day, as 14 Gaels hit the track for the longest race of the meet.
On the women's side, freshman Kaylee Barnes took top honors, placing 1st out of 23 runners in a time of 10:51.24.
Two more Gaels joined Barnes inside the top-10, with Anna Ranieri finishing 7th in a time of 11:01.16, and Sylvia Ingram right behind her in 8th in a time of 11:01.54.
Just outside the top-10 were Sofia Cuevas in 11th in a time of 11:04.82, and Lauren Buckley in 14th in a time of 11:26.41.
On the men's side, three Gaels placed inside the top-10 out of a 44-man field. Blaine Reynolds and Curtis Volf led the way, finishing in 7th and 8th in times of 8:46.12 and 8:49.33 respectively. Thomas Osborne was just behind his Gaels teammates in 10th in a time of 8:49.50.
Claiming 13th was Richard McLain in a time of 8:51.21, with Troy Coulston in 21st in a time of 9:04.50. Luke Bland and Angel Castro rounded out the top-25, with Bland in 23rd in a time of 9:06.15, and Castro in 25th in a time of 9:09.32.
Aidan Donovan rounded out the field for the Gaels, claiming 33rd in a time of 9:21.42.
MILES AND MORE
Dani Rowlinson claimed victory in the women's mile, beating out a field of 35 other runners. The senior won the event in a time of 5:06.07, two seconds quicker than the time she ran at the Portland Indoor One two weeks ago.
Emily Field competed in the mile as well, snagging 14th in a time of 5:25.64, a four second improvement from the Portland Indoor One.
On the men's side, just three Gaels competed in a field of 42. Jacob Bravo led the way, finishing 19th in a time of 4:38.33. Bryan Cromartie was 31st in a time of 4:45.22, a five second improvement on his mile from the first Portland Indoor.
Isaiah Jimenez rounded out the field for SMC in 40th in a time of 5:12.06.
WRAPPING UP THE ACTION
The 800m was the last individual race of the day, as Jaden DeSouza was the lone representative on the women's side, while five runners from the men's side competed in the race.
DeSouza ran well, claiming 5th in a field of 23 in a time of 2:21.12.
Eric Martinez was the quickest Gael on the men's side, finishing 13th in a field 24. His 2:04.60 was two seconds quicker than his 800m time two weeks ago. Jacob Bravo was next to finish, claiming 18th in a time of 2:08.06.
A trio of Gaels rounded out the field, with Bryan Cromartie finishing 21st, Sam Andersen in 22nd, and Raphael Lobo in 23rd. Cromartie ran a 2:11.61, Anderson in a personal best 2:13.77, and Lobo in a time of 2:16.69.
The 4x400m ended the day's action, as each team featured a relay. On the women's side, a team of Maddie Fletcher, Dani Rowlinson, Jaden DeSouza, and Kaitlin Laner finished an impressive 2nd overall. The Gaels ran a 4:10.35, three seconds ahead of 3rd place Pepperdine.
A relay consisting of Eric Martinez, Raphael Lobo, Sam Anderson, and Isaiah Jimenez finished 10th out of 13 relays in a time of 3:51.74.
