

TRK | Numerous Personal Bests Fuel Gaels at Cardinal Classic

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Saint Mary's Track and Field team hit the track in Palo Alto Saturday afternoon, as multiple Gaels set personal bests at the Cardinal Classic.
It was only the men's team in action at Stanford, as a handful of runners stepped up and dropped significant time across a plethora of events.
BIG THROWS, BIGGER JUMPS
The Gaels had a handful of athletes compete in the field events, as Wisdom Thomas took on the long jump and Gavin Voskamp competed in the shot put and discus.
Thomas had a solid showing in the long jump, as he finished 7th out of 15 competitors. His longest jump was 6.55m, with Stanford's Allan Hunter taking the event with a 7.36m jump.
In the shot put, Voskamp finished 14th out of 17 throwers, hit farthest throw being 13.80m. In the discus, Voskamp again finished 14th, with his farthest throw being 39.96m.
ON THE TRACK
The track event got underway shortly after noon, with 1500m getting the action underway for the Gaels. Six Gaels on the men's side raced the discipline, as Blaine Reynolds led the way for SMC.
Reynolds continues to improve every race this season, as he snatched 5th place out of 51 runners in a time of 3:55.04, a personal best by three seconds.
Thomas Osborne finished under the four-minute mark for the first time, finishing 13th in a time of 3:58.45, a personal best by two seconds.
Next for the Gaels was Payton Fox, who also was sub-four minute for the first time as well. Fox finished two spots behind his teammates Osborne, a two second personal best with a time of 3:58.93.
Jackson Seubert crossed the line next for SMC, as he claimed 34th in a time of 4:09.14. Two more Gaels weren't far behind, as Bryan Cromartie and Max Barnes finished 41st and 42nd in times of 4:14.56 and 4:16.03 respectively. Cromartie's time was another two second improvement as well.
The 800m featured a host of Gaels, as seven runners from the men's side raced in the event. Jason Habash was the quickest of the bunch for SMC, finishing 7th out of 28 runners in a time of 1:55.60.
His teammates weren't far behind, as Reinder Prince finished 9th and Eric Martinez in 10th. Prince's 1:56.46 was a personal best by a few hundredths, with a three second drop for Martinez who ran a 1:57.11.
Next across the line for SMC was Noah Pagaran, who finished 15th in a time of 1:58.68. Next was Jacob Bravo in 18th with a time of 2:01.23.
Isaiah Jimenez and Raphael Lobo rounded out the field for SMC, as Jimenez finished in 26th in a time of 2:07.38, and Lobo in 27th in a time of 2:08.73.
The 5000m was the longest event of the day, with six Gaels running the lengthy race. Richard McLain took top honors, as he smashed his previous best by five seconds, winning the event in a time of 14:52.40.
Cayden Hein ran a solid race for the Gaels as well, claiming sixth in a time of 15:13.96. two more Gaels rounded out the top-10, with Angel Castro in 8th in 15:32.10, and Troy Coulston in 10th in a time of 15:34.87, a personal best by five seconds.
Aidan Donovan and Luke Bland rounded out the field for SMC, with Donovan in 13th in a time of 15:43.90, and Bland in 14th in a time of 15:44.38. Donovan's time was a personal best by two seconds as well.
The Gaels finished off the day with the 1600m relay, as SMC finished 9th out of 11 teams with a time of 3:25.88.

Saint Mary's will be back on the track in two weeks' time as they head to San Francisco for the Mike Fanelli Classic on March 30.
