LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's dropped two of three at Pepperdine this past weekend. The offense had a big day at the plate on Thursday, but Pepperdine's offense answered back late to escape with a 12-10 win in game one of the three-game set.

SMC was up 10-7 going into the bottom of the eighth, but three-straight hits started the inning for the Waves to load the bases. A walk plated one run, a hard-hit ground ball past a diving effort from Christian Almanza cleared the bases, and then a sac fly put Pepperdine up for good.

The Gaels took game two 8-6 on Friday, which had some eerie similarities to Thursday's game, with SMC jumping out to leads only to see Pepperdine tie the game on multiple occasions. This time the Gaels took the lead for good in the top of the ninth and stranded two Waves runners in the bottom of the inning to flip the script and get the win.

But game three had a rough first inning against the Waves and the Gaels weren't able to get the offense going in a 12-1 loss. It was SMC's first series loss since March 17-18 against Santa Clara.

ABOUT CAL
Sophomore catcher Caleb Lomavita was named to the inaugural Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference Team before the season. Lomavita started all 55 games as a true freshman during a stellar 2022 season in which he earned Collegiate Baseball All-American honors and All-Pac-12 First Team accolades.

The Ewa Beach, Hawaii native was one of six true freshmen to be named to the all-conference squad last season and became the first Golden Bear to earn All-Pac-12 First Team honors since Andrew Vaughn did it in 2017.

Last season, Lomavita boasted a .272/.345/.414 slash line with 10 doubles, 7 home runs and 45 runs driven in. Lomavita stole a team-leading 15 bases in 17 attempts and was one of just 5 Pac-12 players with at least 7 home runs and 15 stolen bags last year. This summer, he was named a Cape Cod League All-Star where he hit .316 (24-for-76) with 5 doubles and 1 home run in 31 games.
