GOLF | Quick Turnaround for Gaels to Cowboy Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Saint Mary's Golf Team will head right back out onto the links as they take part in the 2023 Wyoming Cowboy Classic this Monday and Tuesday in Chandler, Ariz.
It's a quick turnaround for the Gaels who just wrapped up a The Goodwin hosted by Stanford in San Francisco on Saturday, with one day off being their shortest gap between events this season.
THE FIELD
The Gaels will be competing against 20 other teams in this year's field, including host Wyoming, Denver, Grand Canyon, Iowa State, Kansas, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Missouri, Pacific, San Diego State, Southern Utah, TCU, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV, UT Arlington, Utah State, Utah Valley, UTEP and Weber State. Individuals from Arizona State will also be competing.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels closed out The Goodwin hosted by Stanford by climbing two spots in the standings as Ethan Ashbrook finished even in round three.
Ashbrook finished at 212 strokes for the tournament and had the most consistent three days of any Gael. He moved up 15 spots on the final day to finish 32nd overall, and he and teammate Mitchell Hoey both finished even on pars threes to put them in the top 10 of the 155-player field.
Hoey was also tied for 10th in total pars made and was second on the Gaels with 215 strokes for the event. SMC as a team finished 14th overall of 28 teams. They were eighth among the field in par threes made and 10th in par fives.
ABOUT THE WYOMING COWBOY CLASSIC
The tournament will take place at the Cattail Course at Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass. It's a 7,334-yard course and is a par 72. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday, April 3 and 18 holes on Tuesday, April 4.
