4/8/2023 9:22:00 PM | Men's Tennis
STOCKTON, Calif. – Saint Mary's Men's Tennis won 4-3 over the Pacific Tigers on Saturday, bringing them back to .500 in WCC play at 3-3.
The win puts the Gaels at sixth in the conference standings, which would qualify them for the WCC Tournament April 27-29.
SMC struck quickly by gaining the doubles point in the first two sets to finish. James Watt and Carlos Ramos Membrives won 6-1 and Felipe Rincon and Mathis Moysan won their doubles match 6-4 for the early lead.
Freshman Pierre Lieutaud won the first singles match to finish 7-6, 6-0, but the Tigers won the next three singles matches to finish – all in two sets – and suddenly the Gaels were on the brink of a loss at 3-2.
Saint Mary's would close out strong from there however, with James Watt's 6-3, 7-6 win in the one spot over UOP's Peter Alam to tie things at 3-3. That was followed by Mathis Moysan wrapping up a 7-6, 6-4 win for the Gaels to get the W in the dual match.
UP NEXT:
The Gaels will look to keep their spot in the WCC standings against the Portland Pilots on Friday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Moraga and against Gonzaga on Saturday the 15th at 2:00 p.m.
