WSOC | Salvestrin Named to Preseason All-WCC Team
8/15/2023 2:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SAN MATEO, Calif. – With the season opener just two days away, the WCC has announced their Preseason team, which includes SMC's prolific striker Tessa Salvestrin.
Salvestrin, going into her second year with the Gaels, was a thorn in the side of defenses throughout her first year with Saint Mary's.
The 5'11 forward featured in all 18 games for the Gaels last season, starting in 14 of them. Salvestrin tallied three goals in her first campaign, and also recorded a team-leading six assists as well. Over the course of the season she lead the team with shots on goals, always seeming to find open shots even with defenders anxiously trying to slow her down.
At the end of the season, Salvestrin was honored by the conference with her inclusion in the All-Conference Second Team as well as the All-Freshman Team.
13 players were included into this year's Preseason team compared to year's past, with Portland and Santa Clara each having three players included. Gonzaga, Pepperdine, and USF each have two to rounded out the 13.
With BYU departing the conference, the WCC has chosen Santa Clara to come out on top in 2023, with Portland second and Pepperdine third. Gonzaga follow in fourth with the Gaels moving up a spot from last season's projection in 5th. USF follow SMC in 6th, with Pacific in 7th, LMU 8th, and San Diego rounding out the conference in 9th.
