SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Freshman George Herbert has been named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week for September 4, after notching his second career assist in 85 minutes played this past Friday.
The Orange, N.J. native assisted on the equalizing goal for the Gaels in the 48th minute of SMC's 2-1 win over Dartmouth. Along with starting the play that led to Tyler Hardin's equalizer, Herbert was very solid defensively, as the first-year player was very composed while breaking up Dartmouth's attacks and leading the Gaels out of their zone.
Friday's game was Herbert's third start of the season after registering the full 90 minutes in the Gaels' season-opening win over Detroit Mercy. Herbert recorded his first shot of the season as well in the win over Dartmouth.
Saint Mary's closes out their five-game, season-opening home stand this Friday, September 8 as they host San Jose State at 5:00 p.m.
