MORAGA, Calif. — The wait is over, as the 2023-24 Saint Mary's Men's Basketball schedule has been released. Looking for their 17th consecutive winning season, the Gaels will open up play with a non-conference slate chocked full of talent, before getting set to defend to take on fellow WCC powerhouses like Gonzaga, Santa Clara and LMU in conference play.
The Gaels will open up their season with three matchups inside UCU Pavilion, headlined by a rematch with New Mexico (Nov. 9), who handed Saint Mary's their first home loss of the 2022-23 season. Coach Bennett's squad will then head to Las Vegas to take part in the Continental Tires Main Event at the T-Mobile Arena. The Gaels will take on in-state foe and defending NCAA National Runner-Up San Diego State in the opening round (Nov. 17), and will take on either Xavier or Washington in the second round (Nov. 19). Following a pair of home contests against Davidson (Nov. 24) and Utah (Nov. 27), the Gaels will head to Idaho Falls for a neutral site contest against fellow 2023 NCAA Tournament qualifier Boise State (Dec. 1). Saint Mary's will take part in the Jerry Colangelo Classic for the third consecutive season, this year heading to Phoenix to take on UNLV (Dec. 16). Non-conference play will wind down with the Gaels longest homestand of the year, with four contests against Middle Tennessee State (Dec. 19), Northern Kentucky (Dec. 21), Missouri State (Dec. 23) and Kent State (Dec. 29).
West Coast Conference play opens on Jan. 4, with a key matchup for the Gaels taking place in week one at LMU (Jan. 6). A week later, Saint Mary's has another tough road matchup against a very solid Santa Clara squad (Jan. 13). The toughest stretch of the conference slate, however, will come at the end of January, when the Gaels will take on LMU (Jan. 27) and Santa Clara (Jan. 31) at home, before hitting the road to Spokane for a date with Gonzaga (Feb. 3). Saint Mary's will close out the regular season taking on Pepperdine in Malibu (Feb. 29) before returning home to take on Gonzaga (Mar. 2) in a matchup that could one again decide the WCC Regular Season Champ.
The WCC Tournament will remain at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, and will take place from Mar. 7 - 12.
