MORAGA, Calif. - The Women's Tennis Team will begin head-to-head competition this Sunday in Seattle Washington, where they will face Seattle University at 9:00 a.m.

This will be the first time in program history that the Gaels and the Redhawks will face each other.Â

LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels competed at the Cal Winter Invite that was held in Berkeley earlier this month, with multiple players winning their singles and a duo winning their doubles.Â

Juliette Daries started off the Gaels strong with a 6-4, 7-5 win against USF Julia Visaya.
Sofia Daryaie followed with another win for SMC against Cal Poly Azaria Hayes 6-3, 6-4. Tiziana-Marie Schomburg from Cal Berkeley challenged the Gaels
Stefanie Silva, pushing the set to three. Silva defeated Schomburg 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.Â

Along with Daryaie and Silva's single wins, the duo was able to come together for another SMC win by defeating Cal Poly's Melissa LaMette and Kennedy Buntrock 6-1.Â

Multiple other Gaels also participated in the Cal Winter Invite falling short to their opponents in both singles and doubles.Â

ABOUT SEATTLE UNIVERSITY
Seattle University is coming out of a 4-11 record from the 2022-2023 season. So far this season, they have competed in multiple tournaments and began one-on-one competition earlier this year. They started off face-to-face play with a win against North Dakota, and are on a two game lose streak where they faced Montana State and Portland.Â

In the past three matchups for the Redhawks, Junior Elena Kraleva has won the two of three of her singles matches. She has been the most consistent winner at Seattle University this season. In their season opener, she defeated Nyah Kzuders from North Dakota 6-1, 6-2. She defeated Montana State Marta Garcia-Reboredo in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. This past Friday in the home opener, she fell short to Portland Iva Zelic 3-6, 4-6.Â
