Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WSOC | Gaels Come Up Short to WSU 1-0 on the Road

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team maintained the majority of possession throughout the match, but came up short to Washington State 1-0. 
 
FIRST HALF SMC 0-1 WSU
Within just five minutes of the match Washington State put the only goal up of the match. The Cougars remained in the Gaels territory as three shots were taken, two saved by Kate Plachy
 
Saint Mary's attempted their second shot of the match in the 27th minute as it was blocked by the Cougars defense with Savannah Schwarze with another attempt for the Gaels a minute later. Even with SMC maintaining possession in the first half with 56%, WSU put up four more shots than SMC. 
 
FINAL SMC 0-1 WSU
With a changed mindset Saint Mary's knew they had to make adjustments. The second half of the match consisted of nine shot attempts by both teams. Each team went back and forth with attempts with the Gaels leading the second half with five to WSU four. 
 
Three of four Washington State's shot attempts were blocked by Plachy, adding another five saves to her career. Plachy is sitting with 41 saves in her career, placing her eighth in the West Coast Conference.

Saint Mary's advances their overall record to 4-6-1, 1-1-1 in conference for the season. The Gaels will remain in Washington for the week as they take on Gonzaga on Saturday, October 12th at 6:00 PM.
