

VB | Zorn Earns WCC All-Academic Honors, Five Other Gaels Honored as Honorable Mentions

MORAGA, Calif. — For the first time in her collegiate volleyball career, redshirt sophomore setter Madi Zorn has been honored as a member of the WCC All-Academic Team. This 16 player team honors players who made massic contributions both on the court and in the classroom throughout the season, as players to make the list must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and have been a starter or key reserve throughout the season. Zorn far surpassed those qualification benchmarks, with a stellar 3.83 GPA and a key role as one of the Gaels setters in their 6-2 rotation. Zorn was one of six Gaels honored, with five others (Genevieve Bane, Abby Castillon, Haile Garcia, Clarissa Klein and Hannah Taylor) named as honorable mentions. With six total honorees, Saint Mary's finished behind just San Francisco and Santa Clara, who each had seven, for third most in the WCC.
After appearing in just 29 sets over her first two years as a Gael, Zorn appeared in 98 of a potential 99 sets this season. The redshirt sophomore out of Spokane, Washington finished second on the team with 402 assists, third on the squad with 28 aces and sixth with 145 digs. Zorn recorded her first three collegiate double-doubles against Pepperdine (10/17), San Francisco (10/31) and Santa Clara (11/2), and logged a career-high 27 assists against Cal (9/10). Zorn did all of this while maintaining a cumulative 3.83 GPA as a business major now in her third year as a Gael student-athlete. Her GPA was the highest amongst qualifying Gaels.
The five Gaels honorable mentions (Bane, Castillon, Garcia, Klein and Taylor) each appeared in at least 92 sets. Pin hitters Bane, Castillon, Klein and Taylor combined for 969 of the Gaels 1222 kills, while Garcia led the team with 568 assists. Bane holds a 3.24 GPA as a business major, Castillon holds a 3.43 GPA as biology major, Garcia holds a 3.39 GP as a health science major, Klein holds a 3.53 GPA as an entrepreneurship major and Taylor holds a 3.61 GPA as a health science major.
