BASE | No. 4 Gators Take Finale in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Saint Mary's Baseball dropped the rubber match against No. 4 Florida, as the Gators won game three 10-0. The Gaels took Florida to extras in game one's 12-11 loss and defeated the Gators 9-7 in game two, before two-way star Jac Caglianone quieted SMC's bats in the finale.
Starter Jason Reitz pitched a scoreless first before Florida plated a pair in the second on a two-run double. Three walks and two hit batsmen led to part of the trouble for Reitz on the day, though he did strike out five batters over 3.2 innings.
After a scoreless third inning, a two-out, bases-loaded single scored two more runs to put Florida up 4-0 in the fourth and chase Reitz from the game before Ryan Sanders got the final out of the fifth.
The Gaels traded two outs for a run in the fifth inning to make it 5-0 Florida. Sanders would work into the seventh before an RBI single and a two-run homer put the Gators up 8-0. They would get two more in the bottom of the eighth off David Thomas, and the game was called after eight innings.
Saint Mary's managed just two hits, but did work four walks. They would two of those runners on strike-em-out-throw-em out double plays.
