VENICE, Italy — The Saint Mary's women's basketball team arrived in Italy for its Summer F
oreign Tour late on Tuesday afternoon, and quickly adjusted to the time change as they prepared for an exciting visit to Venice on Wednesday.
The first day of the trip began with a 2-hour train ride from Florence to Venice, where the Gaels had all day to explore the historic Italian city.
After taking a couple different boat taxis through the Grand Canal, Saint Mary's met at San Marcos square for a walking guided tour. Following the guided tour was a chance to take a gondola ride through the old canals of Venice and immerse themselves in fresh pasta for lunch.
"Today was fun seeing Venice with the team and getting to hang out with our teammates througho
ut the day," sophomore Emily Foy said. "It was a long day of travel to get here, but most of us are used to that. Once we got some rest, we couldn't wait to check out new things around Venice."
The Gaels toured the scenic Rialto Bridge and the 1,000-year-old Basilica di San Marco, before heading back on the train through the Italian countryside.
Saint Mary's ended the day with dinner in Florence and back to the hotel to rest for another history filled day on Thursday.
