WSOC | Salvestrin Earns Her First Collegiate WCC Offensive Player of the Week
8/26/2024 2:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - For the first time in her collegiate career, Tessa Salvestrin has earned the West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week award thanks to her hat trick against Tennessee Tech and an assist in their matchup against Vanderbilt.
Salvestrin started off the week with a header in the 16th minute against TTU after teammate Briana Salvetti recovered a loose ball and made a cross into the box. After recovering a Golden Eagles turnover, Savannah Schwarze gave a short pass to Salvetti, allowing Salvetti to launch the ball into the box for Salvestrin to score once again on a beautiful first time touch. To give the Gaels a 3-0 lead against Tennessee Tech, Salvestrin completed the hat trick with a goal to the bottom left corner off a great feed from Sydney Middaugh who beat her defender down the right side of the box and picked out Salvestrin on the back post.
To end the weekend, Salvestrin assisted her teammate Middaugh who scored in the 22nd minute against Vanderbilt to represent the long goal for the Gaels. Saint Mary's left Tennessee with a 1-1 record picking up their first win of the season over Tennessee Tech.
Look out for the Saint Mary's women's soccer team as they return home to take on Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday, August 29th at 5:00 PM. Live stats and ticket links can all be found at smcgaels.com and you can watch the game live on ESPN+.
