LAST TIME OUT (3rd place at Island Resort Intercollegiate)
To start their 2024-25 campaign head coach Scott Hardy and his group went to Michigan to compete in the Island Resort Intercollegiate for the second straight season. After a 9-over opening round, the Gaels bounced back to shoot a combined 13-under-par and jumped ahead of SEC powerhouse Georgia for a third place finish. They would record the low round of the tournament at 14-under-par on the final day, the lowest single round performance since breaking the program record in 2023 when they recorded a 266 (-22) at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational.
In the final round, all four counting scores were under par for the Gaels and they were led by a stellar 66(-6) from Connor Reis. Zack Missigman had failed to get into red figures prior to the final round but was the team's next best finisher at 4-under-par. Go Nakatsukasa and Avery Lazarski were the other two counting scores for Saint Mary's as Nakatsukasa recorded his lowest round of the event at 3-under-par and finished the event with back-to-back rounds under par. Lazarski recorded his second round of 1-under-par to finish the event in red figures and round out the team's scoring.
Hardy is going with a near identical starting lineup for this week's event with the one change involving Northern Illinois transfer Ian Bruchhauser who steps in at the five spot this week for the Gaels. Bruchhauser recorded a 3-under final round performance in the Island Resort Intercollegiate to finish t-27th as an individual.
"We are excited to compete on a first-class and exclusive golf course that is known for its great playing conditions," said head coach Scott Hardy. "As always UW provides a strong field, and this year is no different. It is going to be a great test and opportunity for our team to continue the strong play we displayed to finish up in Michigan a couple weeks back. I know our players will be determined to show they are up for the challenge" (Hardy).
