

The Saint Mary's Track and Field Throws Program Debuted Today

WT&F | Throws Program Debut, DeSouza 800m Win and Dwyer Program Record 200m Headline Season Opener for Gaels Women’s Track and Field

RENO, NEV. — In their first track and field meet of the season, Saint Mary's took part in the Silver State Invitational and delivered strong performances across multiple events.
Graduate student Jaden DeSouza finished first overall in the 800m event, setting the tone at 2:10.31. In their first collegiate 800m race, freshmen Averie Peterson and Peyton Miles finished the event in 2:20.05 and 2:44.42, respectively.
Joining these freshmen were Zoe Leach and Courtney Fitzgibbon, who competed in the 3000m event. Leach placed seventh overall with a time of 10:38.37, while Fitzgibbon followed her, finishing in 11:21.68.
Senior Madison Dwyer led the way for the Gaels in the 200m dash, improving both her best time and the program record by 0.02 seconds to cross the finish line in 25.72. Freshmen Terra Pandolfi, Faviola Quintana, and Breanna Bailey all recorded their first collegiate times in the 200m dash.
In the first year of a full throwing program at Saint Mary's, Alexys Carlson, Arianna Arnold, Eliza Wong, and Izabell Mosley opened the season with their first official throws. Carlson finished tenth overall with a throw of 14.48 meters, setting the school record for the Gaels.
With their first meet in the books, Saint Mary's set the tone for an exciting season ahead. The Gaels will return to the track on January 9th and 10th at the Silver and Blue Invitational back in Reno, Nevada.
