7/15/2026 10:00:00 AM | Women's Track and Field
PORTLAND, Ore. – Former Gaels track and field standout Rayna Stanziano qualified for her first USATF National Championships in the 1500 meter event. Stanziano became the second Gael in recent history to qualify for her country's national championships, as Dani Rowlinson '23 recently qualified and competed for England in the same event (1500 meters).
Stanziano's recent performance at the Portland Track Festival, in which she won the professional race in 4:09.1, is what earned her the standard to officially qualify for USA's.
Saint Mary's Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach Marty Kinsey noted:
"It's been fun seeing Rayna grow as a person this past year. I believe her evolution as a coach has ignited a deeper passion for competition and training, and to see her progress from one of the best collegians to one of the best overall Americans has been awesome. I am super happy for her!"
Stanziano was a four-time NCAA West regional qualifier in the 1500-meter event while at Saint Mary's and holds numerous cross-country and track school records, including the program 1500m record of 4:16.15 set in 2025. Stanziano now coaches a local Bay Area running club and serves as an assistant coach for the Gaels, continuing to grow her legacy as one of the best track athletes to ever compete for the Gaels.
