MTEN | Finn Dyer Leads Gaels to 2-0 Weekend and Wins Shamrock Student-Athlete of the Week

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team went 2-0 over the weekend for their first first WCC victories of the season. The Gaels took down Portland 4-2 on Saturday and then ended the weekend with a 4-1 match win over Gonzaga on Sunday. Leading the charge was freshman Finn Dyer who was a perfect 4-0 on the weekend with a pair of doubles and singles victories. As a result, Dyer was named this week's Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athlete of the Week for the first time in his SMC career.
Dyer won in a dramatic three-set singles match on Saturday to clinch the victory for the Gaels against Portland on Saturday. He then turned around and won the clinching point yet again on Sunday against Gonzaga's Tom Dunlop in three sets, 2-6 6-4 6-2. Saint Mary's ended a four-match losing streak to Portland dating back to 2021 and won their second straight dual match over Gonzaga after defeating them 4-1 last season. The Gaels have now won three of their last four matches and will look to make it three in a row against San Diego on Saturday, April 5th.
