BERKELEY, Calif. – 21 Gaels competed in their first outdoor event of 2025, split between the 1500m, 3000m, shotput and discus events. It was a solid season opener for Saint Mary's, with a top-10 finisher in the 1500m, five in the 3000m and one each in the shotput and discus.
In the field events, thrower Gavin Voskamp placed third in the shotput and second in the discus. One of the few non-distance runners on the Gaels team, Voskamp smashed his personal best in the discus by over four meters with a throw of 47.20.
Freshman Daniel Martinez placed 10th in the 1500m with a stellar time of 4:02.77. In the 3000m, however, the Gaels truly shined with five of their 15 runners in the event placing in the top-10, including a 1-2 finish from Jonathan Velasco and Zane Jackson. Joining that duo in the top ten were TK Berhe (5th), Jason Habash (6th) and Jacob Moffett (7th).
The Gaels will next compete in the Bay Area Invitational, hosted by San Francisco State a week from today.
