MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels (20-22, 3-3 WCC) will get their first ever WCC matchup against new affiliate member Oregon State (19-18, 2-3 WCC), making their first visit to Corvallis since the 2004 season. That said, these two squads are familiar with one another, squaring off a season ago in a neutral site matchup in Fresno, with the Gaels defeating the Beavers 1-0. It was just the Gaels second win ever Oregon State in the last two decades.

IN THEIR LAST MATCHUP…
The Gaels and Beavers played in an absolute gem of a game the last time they squared off a year ago. The two met on February 16, 2024 as part of the Fresno State Kickoff Classic. The Gaels went with their then recordless freshman Mia Nishikawa to matchup with then junior Ellie Garcia from the Beavers. The two locked in a pitcher's duel of epic proportions, as the game remained scoreless through five full innings, with both team's stranding the go-ahead runners in scoring position. In the fifth inning, Marissa Montelongo reached on a bunt single, but was erased on a Taylor Lane fielder's choice. With two away, Sam Buckley smashed a triple to the left centerfield gap, scoring lane for the only run of the contest. Nishikawa would retire six of the final eight batter's she faced, picking up her first collegiate victory and shutout in her hometown. It was Saint Mary's first win over a power five school since they beat Utah on 2/20/22.
ONE RECORD TIED, TWO TO GO
With her solo home run in the first inning of game two against Santa Clara last weekend, sophomore Sam Buckley tied the program single season home record with her 12th, tying her with Sarah Lira, who hit 12 in 2015. While her next home run will give her the outright record, Buckley is also chasing two more records. Buckley is sitting on 40 runs scored, tied for third most in a single season, and just five away from the single season record, and has driven in 36 runs this season, tied for sixth most in a single season, and just three away from the single season record. Both of those records have a very high likelihood of falling this season, potentially as early as this weekend.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
First year WCC affiliate member Oregon State will play host to the Gaels this weekend, sitting on a 19-18 record including a 2-3 conference record. After leading the Beavers to their best record this decade in 2022, Head Coach Laura Berg is in search of her first winning season since. Led by the outstanding 1-2 punch of Logan Hulon and Ellie Garcia, the Beavers are one of the premiere pitching teams in the WCC, but have struggled at times to generate runs offensively. All-time, the Beavers lead the all-time series against the Gaels 21-5, however, in their last meeting, the Gaels defeated OSU by a narrow 1-0 margin in what was Mia Nishikawa's first collegiate win in the circle.
