WTRK | Pair of Program Records Fall in Final Meet of the Regular Season
5/17/2025 9:50:00 PM | Women's Track and Field
SAN FRANCISCO — For the final time before NCAA Regionals, the Gaels took to the track at San Francisco State as part of the West Coast Last Chance meet. It was a busy day for the Gaels, who had student-athletes competing in multiple events throughout the day, but also a very successful day, with two new school records being set.
In the sprint events, Alexandra Davis-Libiano ran a 27.55 in the 200m, good for fourth place, while Jaden DeSouza smashed the program 400m record with a time of 55.40, good enough to win the race as well. DeSouza's time bests former teammate Luz Mercado by exactly one second. It was her first and only time running this distance this season, as her time was good for 151st in the country.
Ana Mercado podiumed in the 800m, finishing third with a time of 2:14.00, while Rayna Stanziano won the 1500m, her third win at that distance this season, checking in with a time of 4:16.89. Also running with Stanziano in the first heat of the 1500m was Eleanor Jepsen, who placed ninth, with a time of 4:45.19. The Gaels went 1-2 in the second heat of the 1500m, with Michaela Martin winning the heat at 4:52.09, and Emily Field just behind her at 4:56.81. Many of the runners who competed in the 1500m today for the Gaels also ran in the 3000m, with Eleanor Jepsen leading the way with a PR of 9:59.82, good for third.
Jaden DeSouza also won the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.55, while Kaylee Barnes finished in third in the 3000m steeple at 10:40.85. It was the second of four events for DeSouza on the day, and the second of three on the day for Barnes.
The 4x400m race at the event was made up of four separate Gael teams, but it was the "A" squad that shined the brightest, setting the second school record of the day with a time of 3:52.89. That team was comprised of Jaden DeSouza, Klara Frih, Ana Mercado and Rayna Stanziano. Like the 4x400m, the shot put event was also made up of only Gael athletes, as Regina Molitoris won the event with a throw of 35-8, and Jaden DeSouza finished behind her with a throw of 29-10.
The Gaels will have runners at regionals, the question is how many, as Jaden DeSouza, Kaylee Barnes and Rayna Stanziano all hope to qualify for postseason action.
