MORAGA, Calif. – After upsetting 16th ranked Georgetown on Sunday, junior forward Sydney Middaugh was named this week's Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time in her SMC career. Middaugh has been a rising star offensively for the Gaels as she is tied for the team lead with three goals on the season while also recording an assist.
Middaugh helped generate both goals in the team's 2-0 victory over the Hoyas Sunday afternoon, putting in a cross that was deflected off a Georgetown defender into the back of the net and then putting the nail in the coffin with a breakaway goal in the 74th minute for her third of the season. This is Middaugh's second department Student-Athlete of the Week award of her SMC career and her first since the 2023 season.
Saint Mary's has now won five straight games for the first time since 2011 and recorded their fifth consecutive shutout in the process, the first time accomplishing that feat since 2001. The Gaels will rest up this week and prepare for their WCC opener on Wednesday, September 24th against conference rival Gonzaga. All conference games can be streamed live on ESPN+ and tickets can be bought online at smcgaels.com/tickets.
