BVB | Deja Vu: Gaels Defeat Pacific 5-0, Fall to 18th Ranked Washington 3-2 for Second Straight Day

MORAGA, Calif. — For the second straight day, the Saint Mary's beach volleyball team split a pair of home matches, defeating Pacific 5-0, and falling to 18th ranked Washington 3-2. With the .500 week, the Gaels remain 10 games above .500 at 16-6. They are now just five wins away from setting a new single season wins record with 13 matches remaining in the regular season.
For the second straight day, the Gaels opened up with a 5-0 win over the Pacific Tigers. Once again, four of the five matches were settled in straight sets, but in the finale, Hannah Glick and Barett Nolan were pushed to the brink, before rallying to take a decisive set three, 15-10, to move to 10-0 on the season.
Again, the task got tougher in match two, as the Gaels once again squared off with 18th ranked Washington. Unlike yesterday, however, the Gaels did not fall behind 3-0, but rather kept themselves in contention until the very end of the dual. This was due in big part to Clarissa Klein and Angelina Bour winning the twos in straight sets, avenging yesterday's three set defeat at the hands of the Huskies. That left things up to the Gaels ones and fives to close things out and earn a victory, both of whom won yesterday. At the fives, Barett Nolan and Hannah Glick remained undefeated in a three set thriller, but Hannah Couch and Genevieve Bane fell in two hard fought sets, as the Huskies once again outlasted the Gaels.
Glick and Nolan finished out another week undefeated, now moving to 11-0. The Gaels top two flights of Couch/Bane and Bour/Klein each went 3-1, each splitting with the top two flights of the 18th ranked Huskies. Couch has now won 75 matches as a Gael, closing in on Lindsey Knudsen's program record of 83 wins.
The Gaels will next head to Santa Cruz for the West Coast Midseason Challenge on March 27 and 28.
