MORAGA, Calif. — History was made on Cottrell Field on Sunday afternoon, as the Saint Mary's Gaels walked off the Pacific Tigers 2-1, to open up West Coast Conference play at 3-0. The win was the Gaels' 10th straight, a new program record, and was their first WCC opening sweep since 2016.
Odhi Vasquez went the distance without allowing an earned run for the second time this week, needing 125 pitches to go the full seven, surrendering just four hits and four walks, while striking out five. Hannah Ferguson, Alex Cutonilli and Victoria Castillo all logged multi-hit ballgames, with Ferguson scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the Gaels historic win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Odhi Vasquez and Justice Alcaraz, both making their second appearances in the circle for the week, locked in an intense pitcher's duel in this one. Through the first three innings, neither surrendered a run, with Vasquez not allowing a hit. The Gaels (24-10, 3-0 WCC) struck first in the bottom of the fourth. Sam Buckley led off the inning with a walk, followed by a first pitch single out to left center by Victoria Castillo. Janessa Parras bunted the two over to second and third, bringing Kiah Silva to the plate. With the infield pulled in, Silva blooped a ball between the shortstop and left fielder, resulting in a double, and scoring Buckley from third. The Tigers (12-23, 0-3 WCC) responded by taking advantage of a two out error to plate the equalizer two batters later in the top of the fifth, and midway through the fifth, the two teams were again level at 1-1.
Braxton Brown laced a double to center with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, but her pinch runner, Tori Cervantes was stranded at second. Both sides traded 1-2-3 frames in the sixth, and the Tigers would load the bases in the seventh before Vasquez recorded her fifth strikeout of the day to strand the Tigers and swing momentum in the favor of the Gaels. In the bottom of the seventh with one away, Hannah Ferguson blooped a ball into shallow left, legged out a double, and drew an errant throw into second. That throw got all the way into foul territory allowing Ferguson to score from second and end the ballgame.
GAME NOTES
Saint Mary's will head west to Stanford to take part in the Stanford Round Robin next week, playing two contests against the Washington Huskies (Apr. 2 and 3) and two against the host Cardinal (Apr. 3 and 4).

GAME NOTES

- Odhi Vasquez ran her unbeaten streak to 15 straight appearances, going 10-0 with two saves in that stretch.
- Hannah Ferguson logged her 14th multi-hit ballgame, continuing to lead the Gaels in that category. She has now reached base safely in 12 straight, the longest streak by any Gael this season.
- With her double today, Braxton Brown now owns the longest active hit streak for the Gaels, having logged a knock in seven straight, one shy of Ferguson and Mia Zabat's high water mark of eight straight games with a hit this season.
- The win marked the first Gaels walk-off victory of the season, and their first since Senior Day of last year against San Diego (May 4, 2025).
- Through one week of conference play, the Gaels stand alone in first at 3-0.
