MBB | Dent Named to WCC All-Academic Team, Wessels Earns Honorable Mention Status

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Congratulations to sophomore point guard Joshua Dent on being named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team, and to senior center Harry Wessels, on being named an honorable mention member of that team. This is the eighth consecutive year that the Gaels have been represented on the WCC All-Academic team. In order to earn WCC All-Academic status, student-athletes must meet all the following standards:
(a) A minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average (GPA) based on the most recently completed term at the time of the nomination. So far basketball, it would be the fall term. Prior to the nomination, the appropriate institutional academic authorities shall review the grades of the prospective nominees.
(b) Be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
(c) Have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution. (True freshmen, redshirt freshmen and ineligible transfers may not be nominated). An ineligible transfer refers to somebody who transferred to your team following the 2024-25 season and is on your roster for the first time in 2025-26.
(d) Participate in at least 50 percent of the institution's completed contests.
The Gaels everyday starting point guard this season, sophomore Joshua Dent earned his first all-academic nod in his first year eligible for the award. Dent led the conference in minutes played, and finished the regular season averaging 13.3 points per game, good for third on the team, while leading the Gaels with 174 assists and 50 steals. Despite the new role as a starter, Dent continued to thrive in the classroom, maintaining a 3.34 GPA as a business administration major.
Senior Harry Wessels also took on a starting role for the first time in his career this year, starting at center for the Gaels. The big man started in 21 of his 30 appearances for Saint Mary's, seeing career-highs in minutes played and rebounding, while climbing into the top-10 in program history in blocked shots. Wessels also saw his GPA climb, and earned his first all-academic distinction, with a 3.23 GPA as a business administration major.
