AZUSA & LA VERNE, Calif. — Saint Mary's men's track and field competed across Southern California this weekend, splitting its squad between the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, and the Leopard Invitational, hosted by the University of La Verne.
To start the weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Oisin Spillane turned in a time of 8:54.27 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, claiming the school record, previously held by Noah McDermott since 2018. The impressive performance marked Spillane's best time in the event and placed him 21st in a field of 91 competitors.
Spencer Wirshing continued his strong season, earning his personal best time in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.04. The performance places him at the third-fastest time in program history, while he also holds the fifth, seventh, and tenth fastest times. Zack Springer (1:56.11) also recorded his best time in the event.
Eric Martinez led the Gaals in the 1500 meters and recorded his personal best time of 3:49.0.
At the Leopard Invitational, freshman Anthony Sharp recorded his personal best time (9:20.24) in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing eleventh in a field of 38 runners.
In the 5000 meters, Jacob Moffett placed fifth overall in a field of 107 runners and earned his personal best time of 14:35.29. Anthony Erikson followed him in eleventh place with a time of 14:47.46, also a personal best.
The Gaels will look to carry this momentum as they continue their season, with just a few meets remaining. They will return to action on Friday, May 1, at the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford.
