SANFORD, Fla. - For the first time in program history, the Saint Mary's baseball team cracked the Perfect Game College Baseball Top 25 poll, coming in at No. 20 in the final 2026 poll released on Wednesday.
The Gaels claimed their second consecutive West Coast Conference Tournament title back in May with a 7-6 win over San Francisco to punch their ticket to the NCAA Regional, also for the second consecutive season. Despite earning the four-seed in the Los Angeles regional with number one overall seed UCLA, Saint Mary's shocked the country with not one, but two wins over the Bruins to single-handedly eliminate UCLA from the NCAA Tournament. Saint Mary's became the first ever four-seed to defeat the number one overall seed in their NCAA Regional opening game, as number one overall seeds were 26-0 in the current NCAA Tournament format.
The two wins for the Gaels were the first in program history over a No. 1 ranked team and two NCAA Regional victories were the most in a single regional in program history, allowing Saint Mary's to reach its first ever regional final. Saint Mary's is one of just five mid-major programs in the top 25 poll and the lone West Coast Conference member. Saint Mary's also received votes in the final National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll released on June 23.
