

TENNIS | Gaels Earn Ten ITA Scholar-Athletes and ITA All-Academic Team Awards

GILBERT, Ariz. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2026 Division I Men's and Women's Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams on Tuesday, as Saint Mary's earned a combined ten Scholar-Athletes, and both programs were named All-Academic Teams for their success on the court and in the classroom.
In 2026, 1,010 Division I Men's student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, and 162 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction while 1,501 Division I Women's student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, and 231 Women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. Eligible student-athletes earned a minimum of a 3.5 GPA during the 2025-26 academic year.
The Gaels' women's team earned six Scholar-Athletes, including repeat honorees in Sofia Daryaie, Iman Khan and Madison Weekley. Joining the trio was also senior Tiana Fox and first-year Gaels Sydney Wilson and Sophie Stanton. On the men's side, the Etchecoin brothers earned Scholar-Athlete status, while the elder Paulo Hugo earned his second consecutive honor. Freshmen Juan Pedro Etchecoin earned the distinction in his first year of collegiate tennis. Additional first-time selections included Francisco Duran and Joey Lyon, while seniors Pierre Lieutaud and Thibaud Maxant earned their second consecutive ITA Scholar-Athlete selections to end their SMC careers.
