One of the best in recent years to play for Saint Mary’s Volleyball is returning to her alma mater. Lindsey Calvin ’19 is joining the Gaels Beach Volleyball staff in advance of the 2022 season, and brings a wealth of experience to the sand courts for the current crop of Gaels.
Following her time at SMC, Calvin played pro volleyball in Europe. From 2019-2020, she was in Geneva, Switzerland for Genève Volley (NLA; Switzerland's top league) and the 2020-2021 season in Finland for Liigaploki Pihtipudas (Lentopallon Mestaruusliiga; Finland's top league). Her Liigaploki team took 3rd in the Finnish Cup.
A standout on both the beach courts and the hardwood of University Credit Union Pavilion, Calvin last played for Saint Mary’s in 2019 when she and Lindsey Knudsen went to the quarterfinals of the USA Beach Championships. That season, she went 20-8 en route to First Team All-WCC honors, and she was named First All-Academic in the WCC her final two years. Calvin won at least 11 matches each of her four seasons on the Saint Mary’s sand, racking up 55 wins over her four years.
Indoors, Calvin recorded at least 200 kills three times in her career, including a career-best 266 as a senior, which was the second most on that year’s team. She was an integral part of Saint Mary’s reaching the NCAA Tournament during the 2018 season, their first time reaching the postseason since 2012. Calvin’s academic excellence was also recognized indoors, as she was named to the All-Academic team three times (2016-18). She also was the recipient of the Wesley Gibson award, given by the SMC English department to the top creative writer of the graduating class.
Calvin is currently enrolled in a master's program at the University of Washington where she will obtain her Master of Education degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership in June.
