BVB | Gaels Finish in Third Place in West Coast Midseason Challenge
3/28/2026 6:34:00 PM | Women's Beach Volleyball
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — For the third consecutive year, the Saint Mary's beach volleyball team took home third place honors at the West Coast Midseason Challenge, splitting with Pepperdine and Santa Clara in the gold bracket of the event. The Gaels were able to pick up a point against the Waves for the third straight meeting, falling 4-1, before rallying back to win a 3-2 thriller over the Broncos in the third place match.
The day opened with a rematch for the Gaels against Pepperdine, who they saw at the Heineken Queen's Cup three weeks ago. Just like in Hawaii, the Gaels were able to take the fives against the Waves, this time on the backs of Hannah Glick and Barett Nolan, who rebounded after suffering their first loss of the season to LMU yesterday. Unfortunately, that was the only Gaels pair to score against Pepperdine. Bella Reyes and Isla Johnson forced a third set, playing in the fours, rather than their usual three spot, but were outlasted in that decisive set, 15-12.
The loss to the Waves set up a third place showdown between the Gaels and Santa Clara Broncos, who met in the third place match of this event two years ago. Head Coach Janice Harrer shuffled the deck with three new pairings in the top three spots, going with Genevieve Bane and Angelina Bour at the ones, Clarissa Klein and Hannah Couch at the twos, and Delaney Nicholls and Alisia Silverthorn at the threes. The top two pairs picked up wins for the Gaels, and the ol' reliables of Glick and Nolan picked up yet another win at the fives, moving to 14-1 on the year, and picking up the win for the Gaels.
Defending West Coast Conference Pair of the Week Barett Nolan and Hannah Glick once again paced the Gaels, going 3-1 for the week. Glick picked up her 30th win in the five spot, the first ever Gael to do so, and moved into the top-20 in program history for total wins, as did Genevieve Bane, both now with 43 career wins.
The Gaels will next head to Stanford for a pair of matches Wednesday, April 1 against the host Cardinal and UC Davis.
