After helping Saint Mary's Men's Soccer win their final road game of the 2021-22 season, freshman striker Riley Lynch was selected as this week's Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week.
Lynch netted the game-winning goal late in the first half, just six minutes after Gonzaga tied the score at 1-1. Sebastian Schacht took the ball away from a Gonzaga player and then passed the ball ahead to Lynch, who worked a give-and-go with Andrew Rotter before Lynch buried a left-footed shot over the leaping keeper to make it 2-1 Saint Mary's. The Gaels would add one more insurance goal in the second half to secure their final road win of the 2021 season.
The freshman is tied for the Saint Mary's lead in points with nine (three goals and three assists), and two of his three collegiate goals have been of the game-winning variety. He is the second men's soccer player to be named Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week this year, with Kash Oladapo taking it home on September 7.
