Spokane, WA - The Saint Mary's men soccer team (2-6-3/0-0-1) tied the Gonzaga Bulldogs (2-7-1/0-0-1), 1-1, in their first game of West Coast Conference action. Brian Voltattorni scored the Gaels lone goal.
The 'Zags tallied the game's first goal as Kari Arnason recorded his second goal of the season at the 49:36 minute mark. Arnason took a long pass from teammate Connor Quin and punched a shot through to the left side of the goal to take a 1-0 lead.
The Gaels would then tie the score up at one a piece when Brian Voltattorni recorded his first goal of the season thanks to an assist from Jon Bernal at the 77:13 minute mark.
In the first overtime neither team scored as Gonzaga tallied the only shot of the period. The game ended as a tie due to darkness. The Bulldogs outshot the Gaels 19-10 in the contest.
SMC's goalkeeper Aaron Valdez recorded five saves while GU's Mike McCarthy tallied four saves.
The Gaels will continue with non-conference action on Sunday, October 6 as they play host Oregon State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
