Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's soccer team (1-4-2) tied the Sacramento State Hornets (1-2-2), 1-1, on Friday, September 20, on Garaventa Field in a non-conference match. The Gaels Robert Orum scored his first goal of the season in the contest.
Saint Mary's took the lead in the first half when Alex Monsalve set up Orum for a beautiful shot to the left corner. Orum's score at the 37:40 minute mark gave him his first goal of the season and SMC a 1-0 lead.
Sacramento State would tie the score up at the 81:21 minute mark when David Fraser sent his header to the upper left corner. Joel Rodriguez earned the assist on a great cross, tying the score at one apiece.
In overtime the Hornets outshot the Gaels 3-1, but neither team could find the back of the net. SMC's goalkeeper Josh Duffy tallied three saves, while the Hornets' Jeff Gibson recorded two saves.
The Gaels will return to action on Saturday, September 21 as they host Cal State Monterey Bay on Garaventa Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
