Men's Soccer Loses First Game to UCSB, 6-0

Santa Barbara, CA - The Saint Mary's men's soccer team (1-1-1) received their first loss of the season in a 6-0 loss to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (3-0) on Friday, September 6. The Gaels will return to action on Sunday, September 8, against the Mustangs of Cal Poly.
Gene Deering and Dan Young both scored two goals apiece to give the Gauchos their third victory of the seaon. Also getting in on the action was Drew McAthy, who scored the game's first goal, and Neil Jones.
Brian Rhodes and Jason Hamdan led the Gaels offense with two shots a each.
The Gaels were outshot by UCSB, 35-6. SMC's Josh Duffy and Aaron Valdez split time in the net as both allowed three goals. Duffy, who started, recorded four saves while Valdez earned two. The Gauchos Kyle Reynish recorded his first shutout, while tallying two saves.
The Gaels will return to action on Sunday, September 8 when they play against Cal Poly in San Louis Obispo, CA. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
