Women's Tennis Falls to Santa Clara 6-1

Santa Clara, CA- Playing their first match in nearly two weeks due to inclement weather, the Saint Mary's women's tennis team fell to Santa Clara 6-1 on Friday, at the Degheri Tennis Center on the Santa Clara campus. With the win the Broncos improve to 6-1 on the season and remain undefeated against league opponents, while the Gaels drop to 1-6 on the season.

Saint Mary's was able to capture the doubles point by winning two of the three matches but was swept in all the singles matches by the Broncos. The Saint Mary's duo of Aude Lambert and Nicole Hunstock defeated Janalle Kaloi and Catherine Cochrane by a score of 8-4 at the #1 doubles. At the #3 doubles the Saint Mary's tandem of Kristen Kummer and Kate Harden defeated Casey Knutson and Kimberly Daniel 8-3. In the #2 doubles match Saint Mary's Dunya Stankovic and Megan Schulman fell to Erika Barnes and Kelly Leathers 8-3.

In singles action the Broncos were able to capture all six matches. In the #1 singles match the Gaels' Lambert took the Broncos' Kaloi to three sets before succumbing to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 loss. Harden fell to Santa Clara's Cochrane 6-3, 6-4 at the #2 singles position. Schulman was the other Gael to take her opponent to three sets, but fell to Knutson in a close 6-2, 4-6 7-5 #3 singles match. Hunstock fell at the #4 singles position to Santa Clara's Leathers, 6-3, 6-1, while Kummer lost to Daniel 7-6 (5), 6-2 at the #5 position. Saint Mary's Stankovic dropped her #6 singles match against Jessie Strunk, 6-3, 6-4.

Saint Mary's (1-6) returns to action on Saturday, February 28 when they face Sonoma State University at 11:00 AM at the Korth Tennis Complex on the Saint Mary's campus.
