
No. 59 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 40 Penn

San Diego, CA - The Gaels finished up the San Diego Invitational with a Sunday match against the No. 40 Penn Quakers. The Gaels fought a tough match but eventually fell to Penn by a score of 4-3. The Gaels finish the weekend with a 1-1 record and move to 10-1 on the season.
The Gaels won the doubles point against the Quakers. All three doubles matches brought exciting competition. All three matches were won by the close score of 8-6. Aude Lambert and Jessica Hoath won their match over the No. 19 ranked doubles team in the nation. Marah Calvo and Erin Young won their match on Sunday and improved to 6-1 in doubles competition. Femke Strijbis and Nienke Strijbis dropped their first doubles match of their collegiate career. The freshman won their first eight straight doubles matches before fall in yesterday's affair.
Calvo gave the Gaels their second point as she won her 11th straight match as a Gael. She won her match 6-2, 6-2. Nienke won her match in straight sets as well, winning 6-3, 6-4.
Lambert dropped just her second match of the season on Sunday by a score of 6-2, 7-5. Lambert, the reigning WCC Player of the Month has now won nine of her last 11 matches. Femke dropped a tough match from the second position. Young and Stef Ordoveza also dropped their matches in straight sets.
This gave Penn the 4-3 victory over the Gaels.
