Overland Park, KS- Saint Mary's men's soccer senior midfielder Dylan Leslie was announced as a candidate for the Lowe's Senior Class Award. Leslie was among a list of 30 candidates and is the lone representative from a West Coast Conference institution.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Leslie exemplifies all these characteristics as he is not just a leader on the field but off it as well. The midfielder was named a 2009 CoSida First Team All-District VIII scholar athlete, as well as being named to the WCC All-Academic First Team.
On the field, Leslie has been a consistent contributor in a Saint Mary's uniform. In 2009, Leslie finished with a team-high 15 points on three goals and nine assists, while leading the team to it's first ever NCAA appearance. Following the 2009 season, Leslie was named to the All-WCC First Team for the second time in his career.
From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in early October. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. The winner will be announced at the Men's College Cup.
