MORAGA, Calif. - Recent Saint Mary's women's basketball graduate Louella Tomlinson has been selected to represent Australia at the 2011 World University Games.
She will join a host of up and coming young WNBL stars in the team that will compete in the Summer Universiade in Shenzen, China August 13-23.
Australia has a proud record of success in the World University Games, having claimed bronze in the 2009 event and claiming a gold medal in the 2007 games.
"It's exciting for me to be the only collegiate player on the team," said Tomlinson. "It will be fun to be back on the Australian basketball circuit and to show the national team coaches how much I have improved in the last four years. Hopefully we place ourselves in the running to play USA in a gold medal match and improve our bronze medal performance in Serbia,2009."
The Melbourne, Australia native recently finished a record-breaking career at Saint Mary's. From 2006-2010, Tomlinson set the NCAA record for career blocked shots with 658 and tied the NCAA mark for triple-doubles with seven.
Tomlinson went on to set several other career records at SMC including points (1,848), rebounds (1,122), blocks (658) and field goals made (694). She was a two-time West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-WCC honors in three consecutive seasons.
