MORAGA, Calif. - Junior starting pitcher Kyle Barraclough was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 40th round as the 1,228 overall pick in the 2011 MLB First Year Player Draft.
Barraclough was named to the All-West Coast Conference First Team after going 6-5 with a 3.60 ERA. Barraclough had huge road wins against San Francisco, Gonzaga and Pepperdine this season, all of which ensured series victories for the Gaels.
"It's always a nice compliment to get drafted," said head coach Jedd Soto. "Barraclough has worked so hard in his three years at Saint Mary's and it is wonderful that his hard work is being recognized."
In three years on the bump for SMC he is seventh all-time with 210 career strike outs and tied for eighth all-time with 16 career wins. Barraclough was a big part of the Gaels rotation that set a single season record for team ERA with a 3.37 earned run average, shattering the previous best set in 2006 of 4.58.
