WTEN | Leduc Claims Title At Cal Nike Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Saint Mary's women's tennis player Catherine Leduc enjoyed quite the result in her first tournament of the 2013-14 season, walking away from the Cal Nike Invitational with the ITA White Division title on Sunday in Berkeley.
Leduc began the final day of the three-day tournament with the potential for two singles matches, beginning with a semifinal against Pacific's Francis Dean. The Gaels junior from Quebec, Canada defeated Dean to advance to the final against Armstrong Atlantic State's Olga Kalodzitsa.
That set up an afternoon showdown for the championship and Leduc started strong, winning the first set 6-0. Kalodzitsa would battle in the second but that didn't stop Leduc as she won the set 6-4 and claimed the title.
Leduc wasn't the only Gael to walk away with an impressive start to the season. After dropping her first match on Friday, Jade Frampton battled all the way back to win the Gold division consolation bracket, defeating Santa Clara's Danielle Silva 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) in Sunday's final. To get to the final, Frampton defeated Marquette's Erin Gebes 7-5, 6-0 earlier in the day.
In doubles play, Leduc and Audrey Leitz played in the White division final but fell 8-6 to San Francisco's Thyra Taune and Marina Nikolic.
Saint Mary's senior Jenny Jullien will be back in action this week when she heads to Los Angeles to take part in the ITA All-American Championships. The Gaels will participate in the Moraga Country Club Pro-Am on Oct. 5, then host their annual Saint Mary's Fall Invitational from Oct. 11-13 at Korth Tennis Complex.
