WTEN | Gaels Cap Off Non-Conference Slate with 4-0 Sweep over Rhode Island

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's tennis team got its fourth win of the 2026 season, and did so in style, with a 4-0 sweep over Rhode Island Tuesday afternoon.
The Gaels concluded their non-conference schedule on Tuesday with a matchup against the Rams, and were able to establish some confidence going into conference play this weekend, with a 4-0 sweep. The doubles point was clinched with wins from Sofia Daryaie/Tiana Fox and Madison Weekley/Elif Tuana Gunal, 6-3 and 6-1 respectively. Daryaie and Fox picked up win number three on the season as a pair, while Weekley and Gunal got their first win as a duo in just their second match together this season.
A warm early spring day may have played a factor for the Rams as Saint Mary's led in four of the six singles clashes to close out the match with a 4-0 victory. Dual wins came from Fox, Gunal and Weekley to clinch the match. All three wins came in straight sets, as Weekley earned her team leading sixth singles win of the season, defeating Rhode Island's Anastasia Pettersson, 6-0 6-1 out of the four-spot. Fox and Gunal each recorded their second singles win of the season, with Fox winning 6-0 6-2 out of the number two position, and Gunal 6-3 6-3 in the three-spot.
