TOLEDO, Ohio - On the first day of the 13th Inverness Intercollegiate, Saint Mary's golf displayed a solid performance from start to end, finishing at 10-under par to lead the field after playing 36 holes Monday at The Inverness Club.
With a shotgun start to open the tournament, the Gaels ended the opening 18 holes in second place after shooting a 4-under 280. Trailing Michigan State by four strokes, SMC took over the top spot of the leaderboard in the early holes of the second round.
Saint Mary's displayed sound patience and strategy en route to shooting 6-under (278) par in the final 18 holes of the day. The Gaels hold a one stroke advantage over Michigan State (-9), while UCLA and Michigan are tied-3rd at 3-under. Washington rounds out the top-5 of the leaderboard at 1-over par.

THOUGHTS WITH HARDY
- "It was nice to get a couple of solid rounds to start the season. We were able to execute our game plan for the course. We stayed patient on the more difficult stretches out there."
- "Being able to finish well was key to both rounds and it takes a lot of patience to do exactly that. The course is in great shape and today was quite a treat for the guys."
- "With very little wind today there were more scoring opportunities. This is one of the better courses I have ever seen in college golf."
ROUND 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Perry Cohen and Pavan Sagoo both shot an opening round 69 to place tied-11th after 18 holes.
- In their first collegiate appearance, Ash Hakim shot a 1-under 70, while Michael Slesinski shot an opening round 76.
- Blake Hathcoat finished the first round tied-33rd after shooting 1-over 72.
- Sagoo and Hathcoat each had four birdies in the round.
- The four lowest scorecards for the Gaels finished with 13 birdies and nine bogeys.
ROUND 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Sagoo started the round with three consecutive birdies an eagle on holes 10-13.
- Sagoo is tied-4th in the field at 5-under par.
- Four Gaels are in the top-15 of the leaderboard (Sagoo, Cohen, Hathcoat and Hakim).
- The Gaels lead the field in par 5 scoring with a 4.50 average (-10), and are second in par 4 scoring with a 4.02 average (+3).
