MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels head back on the road this week for a pair of games against teams in the Big West: UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
SCOUTING REPORT
The Gaels are currently 3-2 after going 1-1 in the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic. SMC defeated Milwaukee 73-71 in their first game of the tournament. In the contest against No. 3 Oregon, the Gaels received their first two double-doubles of the season, coming from senior
Megan McKay (12 points, 10 rebounds), and senior
Sydney Raggio (11 points, 10 rebounds).
Raggio leads three Gaels who are averaging double-digit points with 12.6 per game and also has a team-best, 7.8 rebounds per contest. McKay is averaging 11.0 points and freshman
Sam Simons has 10.6. As a team, Saint Mary's leads the conference with a .458 field goal percentage as well as 28.6 defensive boards per game and a .765 defensive rebound percentage.
McKay was named to the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team after totaling 27 points, 19 rebounds, and 3 blocks over the course of the Classic including her double-double against Oregon.
UC SANTA BARBARA
The Gauchos are 1-5 thus far, receiving their first win in their last matchup against Dartmouth on November 25 (62-56). Before that, they only came within 10 points of their opponent two other times: Utah Valley (63-54) and CSU Bakersfield (56-48).
Coco Miller has been the team's offensive leader as of late, averaging a team-high, 13.0 points per game. She has also spent more time on the floor than any other Gaucho, tallying 34.2 minutes per contest. As a team, UCSB is averaging 51.8 points per game with 5.8 made 3-pointers and 19.2 turnovers.
CAL POLY
The Mustangs are 2-6 through the season's first eight games, defeating Division II Academy of Art to open the season (November 6) and Eastern Washington in their most recent matchup (November 28). However, Cal Poly has suffered multiple close losses including to Sacramento State and USF which were both within three points.
Devin Stanback has started all seven contest and is the only Mustang to be averaging double-digit points (16.0). Stanback also leads the team with a .563 shooting percentage and is .500 from behind the 3-point line. Her team-leading, 112 points are also almost double the person below her.
