

MSOC | Multiple Gaels Receive All-Academic Honors

Senior Stephen Dougherty and junior Anders Engebretsen both received All-Academic Honors from the conference on Wednesday.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. –– The Gaels' historic season continued this week as two players, Stephen Dougherty and Anders Engebretsen, were named to the WCC All-Academic team and four others received honorable mentions.
Senior midfielder Dougherty was honored on the All-Academic Team for the second time in his SMC career, with a 3.8 GPA as a Business Administration major. Earlier this month, Dougherty was named to the All-WCC First Team after scoring six goals with four assists through all 20 games this season.
Junior forward Engebretsen was also honored on the All-Academic Team with his 3.7 GPA as a Business major, after being named as an honorable mention last season. Engebretsen was named to the All-WCC First Team alongside Dougherty this month, following a nine goal performance during the season including the game-winner that assured Saint Mary's a spot in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
The other Gaels who received honors were Joseph Restani, Filippo Zattarin, Jeremiah Michael, and Valentin Sponer who were all chosen as honorable mentions for the all-academic team after achieving at least a 3.2 GPA while also being significant contributors to the team throughout the season.
