SB | Signees Smith, Woosley, and Richie Join Squad

The Gaels signed two high school pitchers and an outfielder for the 2020 season.

MORAGA, Calif. –– Saint Mary's head coach Sonja Garnett has announced the signing of three high school seniors to NLIs in preparation for the 2020 campaign. The trio represents the first true recruiting class pulled in Garnett and her staff since her hire earlier this summer. 

Vanessa Richie
Height: 5'10"
High School: Casa Roble

Richie is a pitcher out of Orangevale who has had a strong high school career prior to Saint Mary's. She played three years of varsity softball and won the league championships her freshman and junior years. Richie was also selected 2nd all league her junior year in the San Joaquin league .

Coach Sonja Garnett: "Vanessa is a strong athlete who is focused academically and is intimidating in the circle. She has a huge upside and we are excited to add her to our pitching staff."

Marissa Woosley
Height: 5'7"
High School: Chico

Woosley is a pitcher out of Chico whose impressive performances and accolades made her an easy choice for the Gaels' coaches. She played varsity for four years and received All-League honors her freshman and junior year. Woosley is also a three-time letter earner for softball and was a part of the USSSA Elite Select All American Northwest champions team.

Coach Sonja Garnett: "Marissa is an athletic pitcher who moves the ball well. She is a dedicated student-athlete and we are excited to see her grow with this program."

Indya Smith
Height: 5'6"
High School: Petaluma

Smith is an outfielder hailing from Petaluma with a steady background in softball that made her a good addition for the team. She played four years of varsity and was selected to the All Sonoma County League team as a sophomore and junior. Smith was also named Offensive Player of the Year for her team her junior year.

Coach Sonja Garnett: "Indya is a versatile athlete and a quick defender in the outfield. She is determined to succeed on and off the field, and has the ability to make an immediate impact offensively."
